This work was commissioned by Mark and Terri Haddix of San Anselmo, California. They started collecting my work about seven years ago. At one show, after purchasing their fifteenth piece they said to me "We need to move so we can have more wall space to expand our collection of your work." We all had a good giggle. Then about a year later they called a asked me over to see there new home, and talk to me about a large space in the living room that was in need of a painting.
This is the painting to the right.
"While we were first drawn to the impressionist quality of Barbara's pastel landscapes, her recent oil pieces have an altogether unique texture. Indeed we have her "Live Oak" painting in both media and while the subject is the same, each painting has a distinctive character. We are also fans of her portraiture; she has created pastel portraits of three of our kitties.
Her ability to capture the absolute essence
of each of our "critters" was truly awe inspiring
(and frankly brought tears to our eyes)."
